Amazon EC2 C9g and C9gd instances powered by AWS Graviton5 processors are now available
Amazon EC2 C9g and C9gd instances, powered by AWS Graviton5, are now generally available. They deliver up to 25% better compute performance than previous generation, feature fastest memory in the cloud, and offer local NVMe storage options for demanding workloads.
When running compute-intensive workloads such as real-time analytics, batch processing, video encoding, scientific modeling, or CPU-based machine learning inference, performance per vCPU, memory speed, and network bandwidth are critical. Amazon EC2 now offers C9g and C9gd instances powered by AWS Graviton5 processors. C9g instances provide up to 25% higher performance per vCPU than previous C8g instances, featuring DDR5 8800MT/s memory, 5 times more L3 cache, and up to 3 times higher packet-processing performance compared to Graviton4-based instances. These improvements reduce data wait times, increasing throughput for in-memory analytics and real-time applications. C9g is suited for batch jobs, video encoding, distributed analytics, and agentic AI workloads that benefit from higher core counts and larger caches. C9gd instances add local NVMe SSD storage with up to 30% higher storage performance than previous generation local storage instances, ideal for HPC simulations, ML inference caches, or ad-serving buffers. Both instance families support Instance Bandwidth Configuration to optimize EBS and VPC networking bandwidth allocation, ENA Express for enhanced networking, attachment of up to 128 EBS volumes, and various purchasing options including Savings Plans and Spot Instances. The new Nitro Isolation Engine enhances security by enforcing strict isolation between virtual machines with formal verification, a first for compute-optimized instances. C9g and C9gd instances come in 11 sizes from medium to 48xlarge plus bare metal, offering up to 100 Gbps network bandwidth and 72 Gbps EBS bandwidth on the largest sizes, doubling previous generation bandwidth. They are available now in US East (Ohio, N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), and Europe (Frankfurt), with more regions to come. Users can launch these instances via AWS Management Console, CLI, or SDKs.
